2026 review

Ali Sánchez was a seldom-used backup catcher whose bat did not do much when he did play: he hit .244/.275/.302 with a 27.2 K% and a 1.1 BB% over 92 PA for NYY, across 51 games and 27 starts, with 21 H, 2 2B, 1 HR, 7 R and 8 RBI in 86 AB. NYY had his contract selected Jun 6, then placed him on the paternity list Jun 23 before activating him Jun 26. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1256th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 483rd of 660 hitters, and 67th of 103 catchers. By early Jun the TDK LABS card had him as organizational depth behind the plate; by mid Aug it had him as a backup with minimal playing time in a competitive lineup, and by late Sep it had him sharing catching duties in a crowded group with cold at-bats.
