Andrew Alvarez spent the early months as trade filler before turning into a rotation piece for WSN: a 3.43 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 112.2 IP across 25 games, 17 of them starts, with a 24.1 K% and a 10.8 BB% over 473 BF. He shuttled between the majors and the minors on Mar 14, Apr 19, Apr 20 and May 15 before the role finally stuck, and once he moved from reliever to starter on Jun 3 the results followed: a 3.34 ERA in 97.0 IP as a starter after a 4.02 ERA in 15.2 IP as a reliever. Taken in only 19 of 674 drafts at ADP rank 837, he finished 654th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 97th of 236 starting pitchers. His 3.43 ERA ran 0.78 below his 4.21 xERA over 473 BF, and his best month was Aug at a 2.45 ERA in 33.0 IP against a 5.56 ERA in 11.1 IP in May. The TDK LABS card tracked the whole swing: a fringe depth arm in mid-May, still off the radar in mid-Jun, then entrenched in the rotation with a soft matchup ahead by Jun 18, and by late Sep it was pointing to back-to-back scoreless starts with strong strikeout numbers against one rough outing.
