2026 review

Austin Slater bounced around all year without ever locking down a job, hitting .231/.311/.277 over 74 PA with 0 HR and 4 SB across stints with MIA, NYM and TBR. He signed with MIA Mar 25, was designated for assignment Apr 23 and outrighted, signed with NYM Apr 27, designated for assignment again May 19 and outrighted, then signed a minor league deal with TBR May 27 before his contract was selected Jun 8, only to be designated for assignment once more Jun 19, outrighted, and re-signed to minor league deals Jun 29 and Sep 1. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1274th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 63rd of 79 right fielders. The TDK LABS card read him as strict platoon depth in early May with no margin in his profile, said by May 20 he had no path to consistent at-bats, but by Jun 2 had his role quietly expanding with starts even against right-handers, and by Jun 20 had him back on an active roster as a platoon hitter valued mainly against left-handed pitching.
