Billy Cook was a speed-and-glove type whose bat never showed up: he hit .179/.207/.250 with a 39.7 K% and a 1.7 BB% over 58 PA for PIT, chipping in 6 SB against 1 CS but just 10 H in 56 AB across 87 games. He shuttled between the majors and the minors on Apr 2, Apr 5, May 22, Jun 10, Aug 2 and Aug 14, and his playing time thinned as the year went on, from 11 PA in Apr and 10 PA in May down to 6 PA in Aug and 7 PA in Sep. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1226th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 54th of 70 center fielders. The TDK LABS card tracked the fade: in early May it read his hot start as not meaningful given how little he had played, by early Jul it had him recalled to fill a rotation need, by late Aug it called him a struggling prospect-level outfielder with no playing time and a candidate for continued benching, and by late Sep it had him reduced to a reserve bat with little chance of getting into games.
