Brandon Valenzuela was a part-time catcher whose bat lagged his playing time: 91 games and 70 starts for TOR, hitting .226/.311/.377 over 271 PA with 9 HR, a 25.5 K% and a 10.7 BB%. He was optioned Mar 18 and recalled Apr 4, then settled into a role that ran heaviest in May at 23 games and 75 PA and thinnest by Sep at 11 games and 30 PA. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 893rd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 320th of 660 hitters and 38th of 103 catchers. The TDK LABS card had him heading a catching platoon while a teammate recovered in early May, then by mid Aug it described him as quietly compiling a multi-hit track record within a low playing-time ceiling, and by late Sep it had him down to a bench catcher getting occasional starts after a recent hot stretch in limited work.
