2026 review
Brant Hurter worked as a lefty reliever who kept the ball on the ground, but the swing-and-miss never quite came: a 3.06 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 35.1 IP over 29 games for DET, with a 16.8 K% and 10.5 BB% over 143 BF. His 23.3 Hard% over 103 BBE was the 10th lowest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, while his 7.7 SwStr% over 507 pitches was the 35th lowest of the same pool. Taken in just 13 of 674 drafts, a rare pick, he finished 382nd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 154th of 811 pitchers, 95th of 575 relievers. Lumbar spine inflammation put him on the 15-day IL May 24, retroactive to May 23, then the 60-day IL May 29; rehab assignments followed in early Aug before he activated Sep 6 and was optioned Sep 27, missing 106 regular-season days in that stint. He was sharper before the injury, a 2.84 ERA in 25.1 IP, than after, a 3.60 ERA in 10.0 IP. His 3.06 ERA ran 0.62 below his 3.68 xERA over 143 BF. The TDK LABS card had him as a no-action vulture arm in early May, then once back in late Sep described him as a lefty middle man working multi-inning relief with ratio value only in matchup spots.
