Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 546th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 202nd of 575 relievers. The TDK LABS card's read shifted with each recall: on Jun 18 it saw no locked-in role, weighing either bullpen work or a longer relief outing; by Aug 2 it liked his early control and strikeout stuff enough to watch for a bigger workload; by Aug 3 it noted 4 strong innings but no high-leverage path in a fluid bullpen; and by Aug 8 it settled on him simply as bullpen depth.
