2026 review

Burch Smith threw 17.0 IP in 13 games for DET, a 3.18 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with a 27.4 K% and 9.6 BB% over 73 BF, before a right shoulder injury ended his year. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 671st of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 288th of 575 relief pitchers. His contract was selected Apr 22, and after a 15-day IL placement on May 22 he was transferred to the 60-day IL on Jun 23, taking rehab assignments Jul 17 and Jul 21 without an activation on record through Sep 27, missing 128 regular-season days. The TDK LABS card called him a solid mop-up arm off the callup in early May, then tracked the shoulder issue through a failed rehab attempt by late Aug.
