2026 review
Caleb Ferguson was a middle reliever whose stuff missed fewer bats than most, and the results followed: a 5.18 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 33.0 IP across 35 games (1 start) for CIN and STL, with a 20.7 K% and a 12.7 BB% over 150 BF, 5 HR allowed, 1 W, 1 SV and 5 HLD. He opened the year on the 15-day IL retroactive to Mar 22 with an oblique strain, took rehab assignments Apr 28 and May 5, and was activated May 23 after missing 59 regular-season days; he moved from CIN to STL, then was designated for assignment Aug 29 and released Aug 30. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1020th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 508th of 575 relievers. His 7.8 SwStr% over 587 pitches was the 40th lowest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, and his 5.18 ERA ran 0.39 above his 4.79 xERA over 150 BF. The TDK LABS card had him back in Cincinnati's middle relief mix with the ninth wide open in late May; by early Aug it had him with St. Louis as a depth piece with occasional setup work but no clear save lane, and by late Aug it had him down to matchup-left work in a fluid pen with no consistent leverage.
