PIT placed him on the restricted list May 31 and activated him Jun 1. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 1136, he finished 838th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 298 spots above his ADP rank, 530th of 811 pitchers and 404th of 575 relievers. His 3.95 ERA ran 0.94 below his 4.89 xERA over 537 BF. Against right-handed batters he held them to .235/.288/.301 over 212 PA, against left-handers .272/.346/.424 over 325 PA. He posted a 2.41 ERA in 18.2 IP in Jul. He posted an 8.15 ERA in 17.2 IP in Aug. By early May the TDK LABS card read his fastball-up shape as broken since March. By early Aug it had him as a multi-inning bulk relief arm, and by late Sep it settled him as a long reliever in a bullpen without a defined role.
