2026 review

Christopher Morel struggled to find his footing at the plate, batting .173 with a .245 SLG in 98 AB, a .229 OBP, a 33.3 K% and a 5.7 BB% over 105 PA, across 36 games and 27 starts split between MIA and NYM. He opened the year on the 10-day IL, placed Mar 28 (retroactive to Mar 25) for a left oblique strain, took a rehab assignment Apr 21, and was activated Apr 27 after missing 33 regular-season days. MIA designated him for assignment Jun 21 and outrighted him Jun 25, and he signed a minor league contract with NYM on Jul 1 before his contract was selected Aug 17, his last game for MIA coming Jun 10 and his first for NYM Aug 18. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 1034, he finished 1349th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 315 spots below, and 561st of 660 hitters, 52nd of 65 first basemen. The TDK LABS card's read shifted through the year: by mid-Aug it had him up after a strong lower-level stretch but struggling in the majors, by late Sep it had him producing off the bench in a potent lineup while limited playing time capped his weekly output, and soon after it had him picking up sporadic at-bats in games already decided.
