Clay Holmes was a strikethrower whose season got split by injury. He worked to a 3.29 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 101.1 IP across 18 starts for NYM and CHC, striking out an 18.6 K% and walking a 10.0 BB% over 419 BF. A right fibula fracture put him on the 15-day IL May 16, he was transferred to the 60-day IL May 19, missed 84 regular-season days, took rehab assignments in Jul and early Aug, and was activated Aug 8 with CHC after starting the year with NYM. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 329, he finished 367th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 38 spots below his ADP rank, and 58th of 236 starting pitchers. His ERA ran 0.58 below his 3.87 xERA over 419 BF. His sinker sat at 93.7 mph in Mar-Jun (418 pitches) and dropped to 92.4 mph in Jul-Sep (367 pitches). Before the fibula stint he had a 2.39 ERA in 52.2 IP; after activation it climbed to 4.25 ERA in 48.2 IP, and his best month was Apr at 1.48 ERA in 30.1 IP against a worst month of Sep at 8.24 ERA in 19.2 IP. By late Sep the TDK LABS card was flagging that his control had cratered in a recent outing.
