2026 review
Daniel Palencia had a season built around big stuff but slowed repeatedly by injury: over 32 games with no starts he threw 29.2 IP with a 3.64 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, a 24.4 K% and an 8.9 BB% over 123 BF, picking up 3 SV, 3 HLD and 1 BS to go with 2 W and 2 L. He was placed on the 15-day IL Apr 17, retroactive to Apr 14, for a left oblique strain, took a rehab assignment May 1 and was activated May 3, then went back on the IL Jun 16 for right elbow inflammation before a string of rehab assignments in Aug and activation from the 60-day IL Aug 21, missing 85 regular-season days in 2 stints. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 109, he finished 459th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 350 spots below, and 143rd of 575 relief pitchers. He was rougher after his longest IL stint than before it, a 4.85 ERA in 13.0 IP after activation against a 2.70 ERA in 16.2 IP before. The TDK LABS card had him back in the ninth in early May after topping 101 mph on his return, but by late Sep it had him working bridge innings in an unsettled Chicago pen rather than closing.
