2026 review

Dennis Santana was a shaky middle relief arm who posted a 5.56 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 56.2 IP, with a 19.6 K% and a 10.0 BB% over 250 BF across 57 games split between PIT and ARI, going 2-5 with 3 SV, 5 HLD and 2 BS. Pittsburgh designated him for assignment Jul 23 and released him Jul 29; Arizona signed him to a minor league contract Aug 5 and selected his contract Aug 16. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 146, he finished 1069th of 1472 overall in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 923 spots below, and 529th of 575 relievers. His 5.56 ERA ran 0.87 above his 4.69 xERA over 250 BF. Right-handed batters hit .208/.286/.376 off him over 113 PA while left-handed batters hit .292/.380/.517 over 137 PA. The TDK LABS card had Pittsburgh's ninth inning cracking open in early May with a possible change at closer, then by late Jul was noting his release after a volatile season in a shrinking role, and by mid Sep was pointing to a big moment closing out a tight game even as it kept him stuck in middle relief in Arizona's fluid bullpen without a settled path to holds or closing.
