2026 review

Dominic Smith was a bench bat by the end, a part-time DH whose role shrank as the season went on: he hit .253/.311/.383 with a 16.0 K% and a 7.7 BB% over 300 PA for ATL, with 9 HR and 46 RBI across 108 games and 72 starts. He signed a minor league contract Feb 19, was released Mar 20, then signed again as a free agent Mar 21 and stuck. Undrafted in most NFBC drafts, taken in just 99 of 674, he finished 414th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 232nd of 660 hitters and 16th of 46 DH. His playing time tells the story on its own, 61 PA in Apr and 66 in Jun down to 28 in Aug and just 13 in Sep, and the TDK LABS card tracked the fade: by May it had Atlanta cutting his starts against righties, by mid-Aug it had him ceding the everyday role, by early Sep it had him as a part-time first baseman in a cold spell, and by late Sep it had him reduced to pinch-hitting with little path to more time.
