2026 review
Drew Cavanaugh was a backup catcher who got his contract selected midseason and never chased the bat: in 59 games with 42 starts he hit .229, a .315 OBP and a .292 SLG in 144 AB, with 1 HR, a 30.1 K% and a 10.8 BB% over 166 PA. San Francisco selected his contract Jun 26, and he played out the season as a backup. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1237th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 65th of 103 catchers. His .280 wOBA ran 16 points below his .296 xwOBA over 166 PA. The TDK LABS card had him as the backup catcher right after his Jun 27 call-up, then by early Aug had him platooning against right-handers; by Aug 9 it read a cold stretch at the plate against metrics that pointed to more power underneath, and by Sep 27 it settled on him as a backup with sub-replacement production in limited time.
