2026 review

Elmer Rodríguez was a rookie starter who shuttled between the majors and the minors all year, never getting a settled rotation spot: a 5.40 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 26.2 IP over 6 games and 6 starts for NYY, with a 16.8 K% and a 12.8 BB% over 125 BF. He was optioned Mar 9, recalled Apr 29, optioned May 6, recalled May 16, optioned May 18, recalled Jun 21, optioned Jun 22, recalled Jul 19, optioned Jul 20, recalled Aug 26, then optioned again Sep 7. Undrafted, wait, he was drafted at ADP rank 1087, and he finished 990th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 97 spots above, and 150th of 236 starters. The TDK LABS card flagged his MLB debut recall in early May, then by late August described an elite fastball paired with thin command margin, calling him a flier rather than a regular rotation piece, and by early September had him as a cup-of-coffee arm getting repeated spot starts despite rough results with an uncertain role.
