Erik Tolman came up in late Aug and worked exclusively out of the Washington bullpen, posting a 2.93 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 15.1 IP with a 25.4 K% and a 13.4 BB% over 67 BF, picking up 5 SV, 2 HLD and 3 BS along the way. WSN selected his contract Aug 19, and he pitched from Aug 22 through Sep 27, throwing 6.2 IP over 5 games in Aug and 8.2 IP over 10 games in Sep. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 475th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 153rd of 575 relievers. The TDK LABS card read on him shifted fast: a zero-outing depth arm the day after his call-up, then by Sep 3 a handcuff who grabbed a save only because the closer was gassed, then by Sep 15 someone holding the ninth with back-to-back saves in a manager-driven committee, and by Sep 25 back in a fluid committee after blown chances with the walk rate still a question.
