2026 review

Esmerlyn Valdez was a raw power bat who got everyday at-bats in fits and starts: after being optioned Mar 9, he was recalled May 22, optioned again May 28, and recalled Jun 11, hitting .232/.345/.510 with a 37.6 K% and a 14.6 BB% over 287 PA for PIT, with 17 HR and 47 RBI in 72 games. A left hamstring strain put him on the 10-day IL Sep 12, 15 regular-season days missed. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 969, he finished 352nd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 27th of 79 right fielders. His .368 wOBA ran 36 points above his .332 xwOBA over 287 PA. Against left-handed pitchers he hit .233/.378/.633 over 111 PA, against right-handers .232/.324/.437 over 176 PA. By late May the TDK LABS card had him called up and holding down the right field job, pointing to a real on-base-and-power combination coming out of the minors.
