Francisco Alvarez was a power-hitting catcher who struggled to make consistent contact: he hit .233/.311/.399 with a 30.7 K% and a 9.3 BB% over 420 PA for NYM, adding 16 HR, and his 15.3 Barrel% over 248 BBE was the 11th highest of 267 hitters with 300+ PA while his 30.7 K% was the 18th highest of that same group. A right meniscus tear put him on the 10-day IL on May 13, he took a rehab assignment Jun 1, and the stint cost him 27 regular-season days. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 168, he finished 425th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 257 spots below, and 18th of 103 catchers. He hit .241 over 112 AB before the IL stint and .230 over 261 AB after he came back, and his best month was Jul at .267 over 60 AB against .167 over 72 AB in Aug. By mid-Sep the TDK LABS card described a bat that had gone cold even as the underlying contact stayed strong; by late Sep it had shifted back to framing him around that same well-hit ball and a heavy barrel rate.
