2026 review

Garrett Whitlock was a shutdown reliever who missed bats and avoided walks, posting a 1.72 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 52.1 IP with a 29.8 K% and a 4.5 BB% over 198 BF for BOS, with 4 SV and 26 HLD. His 4.5 BB% and 29.8 K% over 198 BF were the 10th lowest and 48th highest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, while his 16.4 SwStr% over 743 pitches was the 10th highest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF. He was placed on the paternity list Apr 3 and activated Apr 6, then left knee inflammation put him on the 15-day IL May 28 (retroactive to May 25); he took a rehab assignment Jun 6 and was activated Jun 9. Right elbow inflammation sent him back to the 15-day IL Aug 13 (retroactive to Aug 10) before he was activated Aug 29, missing 34 regular-season days across 2 stints. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 405, he finished 151st of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 254 spots above, and 14th of 575 RP. His 1.72 ERA ran 0.90 below his 2.62 xERA over 198 BF. By early May the TDK LABS card had him holding leverage; by late Aug it had him restored to an elite setup role, and by late Sep it had him acting closer.
