Hagen Smith missed bats at an extreme rate out of the CHW bullpen, but he handed a lot of them back with walks. CHW selected his contract Aug 8, and over 18 games with 1 GS he put up a 1.29 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 28.0 IP with 41 SO against 16 BB, 3 W, 3 L and 2 HLD, working 11.0 IP in Aug and 17.0 IP in Sep. His 34.5 CSW% over 469 pitches was the 3rd highest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, and his 37.3 K% and 14.5 BB% over 110 BF were the 5th highest and the 23rd highest of that same group. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 1224, he finished 284th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 53rd of 575 relief pitchers. His 1.29 ERA ran 1.16 below his 2.45 xERA over 110 BF. By mid-Aug the TDK LABS card had him limited to low-leverage innings; by mid-Sep it had him taking a first career start, and by late Sep working in setup innings.
