2026 review

Ildemaro Vargas was a low-strikeout contact bat for ARI, going .254/.298/.377 with a 10.1 K% and a 5.6 BB% over 486 PA, adding 9 HR, 62 R and 67 RBI over 142 games. His 10.1 K% over 486 PA was the 10th lowest of 267 hitters with 300+ PA. He had his contract selected by ARI on Mar 25, and the platoon ran his way against lefties, .321/.347/.500 over 171 PA, against right-handers much worse at .216/.270/.308 over 316 PA. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 211th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 24th of 65 first basemen. He hit .372 over 86 AB in Apr against just .183 over 93 AB in Aug. By early May the TDK LABS card had him as a hot contact bat riding a long hit streak and holding onto first base when a teammate returned; by late Sep it had him losing at-bats as the corner infield shuffled and a platoon partner gained ground.
