2026 review

James Wood was a power hitter whose contact quality ran well ahead of his results: he hit .265/.388/.503 with a 28.7 K% and a 16.4 BB% over 623 PA for WSN, adding 30 HR, 106 R and 21 SB. His 58.9 HardHit% and 18.6 Barrel% over 338 BBE were the 1st and 2nd highest of 267 hitters with 300+ PA. A left oblique strain put him on the 10-day IL Aug 4, he took a rehab assignment Aug 30, and he was activated Sep 2 after missing 29 regular-season days. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 37, he finished 18th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 19 spots above, and 3rd of 79 right fielders. His .383 wOBA ran 20 points below his .403 xwOBA over 623 PA, and he hit .265 over 437 AB before the IL stint against .263 over 76 AB after. Against right-handed pitchers he hit .271/.417/.526 over 408 PA, against left-handers .253/.332/.459 over 217 PA. The TDK LABS card questioned him after a slow start in early May, called the summer strikeout spike a slump rather than a decline by Jul 1 given the underlying power, and by late Sep was describing him as back from the oblique strain with expected numbers running even hotter than his production.
