2026 review

Jimmy Crooks was a backup catcher who couldn't get the bat going: he hit .179/.255/.336 with a 32.2 K% and a 6.0 BB% over 149 PA for STL, adding 6 2B and 5 HR across 52 games. He was optioned Mar 7, recalled May 29, and optioned again Aug 31 after his last game Aug 29, with his workload climbing from 3 PA in May to 54 in Jun, 38 in Jul, and 54 in Aug. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 1193, he finished 1238th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, and 66th of 103 catchers. His .264 wOBA ran 30 points below his .294 xwOBA over 149 PA. The TDK LABS card tracked him as a capped-ceiling backup through early Jun and still a backup in a platoon rotation by Jul, before flagging by late Aug that a cold-spell platoon catcher was drawing fresh trust with strong expected-stats behind him.
