2026 review
John King was a middle reliever who held his own for stretches: he posted a 3.99 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP in 49.2 IP over 50 games for MIA, with a 16.8 K% and an 8.6 BB% over 197 BF, 1 SV and 4 HLD. He was placed on the 15-day IL Jul 9 retroactive to Jul 8 for a left lateral ankle sprain, activated Jul 23 after missing 15 regular-season days, then designated for assignment Aug 23 and released Aug 26 before signing a minor league contract Aug 31. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 333rd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 74th of 575 relievers. His best month was Apr at a 0.77 ERA in 11.2 IP against a 4.76 ERA in 11.1 IP in May. The TDK LABS card had him as a third-or-lower save option behind others in early May, by Aug 3 called him a middle reliever whose ERA looked better than the stuff behind it, by Aug 8 had his role bottomed into pure middle relief with no save or hold path, and by Aug 26 noted the designation for assignment after a brutal recent stretch.
