John Peck came up cold, a rookie shortstop who struggled to find his footing at the plate in his first look: .162/.275/.176 with a 20.0 K% and an 11.2 BB% over 80 PA across 24 games and 20 starts for DET, with 11 H, 5 SB and 7 RBI. His contract was selected Aug 31, and he stuck around as a regular starter into late Sep. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1307th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 521st of 660 hitters, and 54th of 61 shortstops. The TDK LABS card tracked the debut as it went: in early Sep it noted a slow start right after his call-up, within a week it saw flashes of promise, by mid-Sep it described him getting consecutive starts with modest results, and by late Sep it still had him as a regular starter whose cold stretch at the plate had not let up.
