2026 review

Jonah Cox was a speed-first rookie whose season came in bursts around an injury. He hit .252/.298/.384 with a 38.5 K% and a 5.9 BB% over 169 PA, adding 4 HR, 26 R, 16 RBI and 16 SB across 62 games for SFG. His contract was selected May 31, and a left oblique strain put him on the 10-day IL Jul 8, retroactive to Jul 6; after a rehab assignment Jul 29 he was activated Aug 4, optioned the same day, and recalled Aug 14, missing 29 regular-season days. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 723rd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 33rd of 70 center fielders. His .300 wOBA ran 44 points above his .256 xwOBA over 169 PA. The TDK LABS card had him as outfield depth when his contract was selected in early Jun, by early Sep it read him as a hot rookie fighting a strikeout problem whose contact quality pointed the other way, days later it pointed to his speed as a standout tool after a recall, and by late Sep it had his power stalled out with the speed still carrying the profile.
