2026 review

Jonathan Hernández was a bullpen depth arm whose whiff numbers never showed up: his 7.7 SwStr% over 413 pitches was the 37th lowest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, while his 25.7 Hard% over 74 BBE was the 29th lowest of the same pool. He ran a 5.68 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 25.1 IP over 16 games for LAD, with a 20.2 K% and an 11.9 BB% over 109 BF, missing bats now and then but walking too many and giving up too much hard contact for the outs to add up. He signed as a free agent May 18, then cycled through the roster all summer — designated for assignment, outrighted, selected and designated again through Aug 21 — working 6.0 IP in May, 11.2 IP in Jun and 7.2 IP in Aug in between. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 892nd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 572nd of 811 pitchers, and 440th of 575 relievers. His 5.68 ERA ran 1.30 above his 4.38 xERA over 109 BF. The TDK LABS card called him a bullpen depth add still building a usage cadence in late May, then by late Aug had him designated for assignment again before an outright to the minors after a rough stint in Los Angeles.
