2026 review

José Caballero was a speed-first shortstop with light contact: he ran for 34 SB and hit 14 HR but batted .231/.290/.365 with a 24.3 K% and a 6.4 BB% over 456 PA for NYY, and his 25.6 HardHit% over 309 BBE was the 11th lowest of 267 hitters with 300+ PA. A right middle finger fracture put him on the 10-day IL May 12, and he was activated May 22 after missing 10 regular-season days. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 211, he finished 146th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 65 spots above, and 15th of 61 shortstops. His .290 wOBA ran 12 points above his .278 xwOBA over 456 PA. By early Sep the TDK LABS card had him trending upward out of a brutal month but capped by part-time work, and by late Sep it still had him as a speed-edge utility man whose contact had gone elusive that month on a lefty-heavy slate.
