2026 review
Josh Ekness worked in relief without bat-missing stuff, leaning on weak contact: he posted a 3.23 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 30.2 IP over 30 games for MIA, with a 17.9 K% and 14.9 BB% over 134 BF. His contract was selected May 2, he was optioned May 14 and recalled May 29, then went on the 15-day IL retroactive to May 29 for a right calf strain on Jun 1, was transferred to the 60-day IL Jun 21, took a rehab assignment Jul 23 and was activated Aug 3, missing 66 regular-season days in the stint. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 517th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 183rd of 575 relievers. His 22.7 Hard% over 88 BBE was the 7th lowest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, but his 14.9 BB% over 134 BF was the 18th highest and his 7.5 SwStr% over 549 pitches was the 30th lowest of that group. His 3.23 ERA ran 0.64 below his 3.87 xERA over 134 BF. By early May the TDK LABS card had no read on him; by mid Aug it had him pitching well back from the calf rehab but stuck in bulk work rather than leverage, and by late Sep it had him fading in middle relief with no leverage role ahead.
