2026 review

Kevin McGonigle was a patient, on-base rookie shortstop for DET who drew walks at a strong clip: he hit .278/.376/.430 over 707 PA with 18 HR, 97 R, 72 RBI and 12 SB. His 13.4 BB% over 707 PA was the 17th highest of 267 hitters with 300+ PA. His contract was selected Mar 25, and he played from Mar 26 through Sep 27. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 261, he finished 43rd of 1472 overall in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 218 spots above, and 35th of 660 hitters, 6th of 61 shortstops. He hit much better against right-handed pitchers, .292/.396/.468 over 502 PA, than against left-handers, .240/.322/.333 over 208 PA. His best month was Apr at .327 over 98 AB and his worst was Aug at .231 over 108 AB. The TDK LABS card tracked a rookie who kept building: by early May it had him on a 25-game on-base streak, by late Jul it noted a brief plateau in power without denting the underlying contact profile, by mid Aug it had him leading off with power and walks, and by late Sep it described a strong close capped by a final home run.
