2026 review
Mason Black worked as a swingman out of the KCR bullpen who missed the strike zone as much as he missed bats: his 13.4 K% and 14.1 BB% over 142 BF were the 13th lowest and 29th highest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, and his 6.6 SwStr% over 557 pitches was the 14th lowest of that same 517-pitcher pool. Across 17 games he posted a 4.31 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 31.1 IP, with 20 BB and 19 SO, and he was shuttled between the majors and the minors on Mar 17, Apr 19, May 5, May 27, Jun 19, Aug 7 and Aug 27. Taken in just 1 of 674 drafts at NFBC ADP rank 559, he finished 983rd of 1472 overall in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 494th of 575 relief pitchers. His 4.31 ERA ran 2.46 below his 6.77 xERA over 142 BF. The TDK LABS card had him in mid-Aug as still waiting on role clarity, and by late Aug settled into work as a low-leverage long reliever pitching behind an opener.
