2026 review
Mason Englert was a reliever pushed into spot starts, and the starts were where things came apart: across 15 games and 4 GS he posted a 5.95 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 39.1 IP, with a 21.2 K% and a 5.0 BB% over 179 BF. His 5.0 BB% over 179 BF was the 23rd lowest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF, but his 39.7 Hard% over 131 BBE was the 47th highest of that pool. Right forearm tightness put him on the 15-day IL Apr 16, and he had missed 22 regular-season days by his May 8 activation, after which he shuttled between the majors and the minors on May 9, Jun 3, Jul 5, Jul 17 and Sep 23. Once he moved from reliever to starter with his first appearance in the role Jul 5, a 3.96 ERA in 25.0 IP as a reliever turned into a 9.42 ERA in 14.1 IP as a starter. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 670, taken in only 4 of 674 drafts, he finished 1109th of 1472 overall in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 544th of 575 relief pitchers. The TDK LABS card had him as rotation depth, not a closer, in early May, and by late Sep described him as a low-leverage spot starter sent down after a rough outing.
