2026 review

Matt McLain was a middle infielder whose power and speed came with little else: he hit .185/.274/.334 with a 28.0 K% and a 9.7 BB% over 496 PA for CIN, adding 15 HR and 20 SB in 134 games. A left calf strain put him on the 10-day IL Jul 8, he took a rehab assignment Jul 24, and he was activated Jul 30, missing 22 regular-season days. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 186, he finished 318th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 132 spots below, and 24th of 75 second basemen. He hit lefties better at .243/.347/.430 over 126 PA against .166/.248/.301 over 372 PA versus right-handers, and his .272 wOBA ran 21 points below his .293 xwOBA over 496 PA. His average barely moved around the injury, .190 over 268 AB before the stint and .178 over 169 AB after. The TDK LABS card had him losing his starting job in early May, benched again after weak contact by late Jun, day-to-day with the calf issue in Jul, and back in the lineup after the injury by late Sep.
