MJ Melendez was a power-over-contact DH whose season came in flashes: across 56 games and 39 starts with NYM he posted a .192 AVG and a .350 SLG in 120 AB, and a .315 OBP, a 34.7 K%, and an 11.8 BB% over 144 PA, with 4 HR and 11 RBI. Signed as a free agent Feb 12, he was optioned Mar 17, recalled Apr 15, and optioned again Jun 26 before being designated for assignment Aug 2 and outrighted Aug 4. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 893 as a rare pick taken in 31 of 674 drafts, he finished 1217th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 454th of 660 hitters, 31st of 46 designated hitters. His .302 wOBA ran 22 points above his .280 xwOBA over 144 PA. The TDK LABS card had him hot in early-mid May, riding a strong mark with solid underlying quality after the callup while playing time tilted his way as a teammate's absence opened at-bats, then by mid May it had him boxed into a strict platoon against right-handed pitching with only a handful of starts left in the mix, and by late Jun it had him cold amid recent bench stints.
