2026 review
Munetaka Murakami hit for huge power with an equally huge swing-and-miss problem: 35 HR with a .207 AVG in 454 AB for CHW, with 82 R and 77 RBI, plus a .347 OBP, .478 SLG, 35.4 K% and 16.6 BB%, all over 553 PA. A right hamstring strain put him on the 10-day IL May 30, he took a rehab assignment Jul 7, and he was activated Jul 10 after missing 41 regular-season days. He hit .240 over 200 AB before the stint and just .181 over 254 AB after it, with a best month of Jul at .258 over 62 AB and a worst of Aug at .147 over 102 AB. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 213, he finished 105th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 108 spots above, and 15th of 65 first basemen. His 20.5 Barrel% and his 56.8 HardHit%, both over 259 BBE, were the 1st and 3rd highest of 267 hitters with 300+ PA, and his 16.6 BB% over 553 PA was the 3rd highest of that same group. The TDK LABS card called him an instant sensation with elite contact in early May, was still pointing to the power profile through a strikeout-heavy slump by late Aug, and by late Sep was noting a power surge with back-to-back homers.
