2026 review

Nelson Velázquez was a boom-or-bust bat this year, 6 HR but a .188 average that couldn't cash in his power: he went 19-for-101 with 4 2B, 6 HR, 12 R and 18 RBI over 52 games and 24 starts, batting .188 and slugging .406 in 101 AB, with a .257 OBP, an 8.0 BB% and a 33.6 K% over 113 PA. He signed a minor league contract Jan 26 with STL, had his contract selected May 29, was designated for assignment Aug 8, then claimed off waivers by HOU from STL on Aug 10 before being designated for assignment again Aug 20, outrighted Aug 23, and re-signed as a free agent Aug 24. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 949, he finished 1156th of 1472 overall in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 55th of 93 left fielders. His .286 wOBA ran 53 points below his .339 xwOBA over 113 PA, and by late Sep the TDK LABS card had him as a recently active bat showing strong recent contact held back by a heavy strikeout rate.
