2026 review
Nick Fortes was a contact-first backup catcher who didn't walk or barrel much. He hit .258/.304/.376 with a 13.9 K% and a 3.7 BB% over 323 PA for TBR, adding 6 HR and 35 RBI across 109 games and 78 starts. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 663rd of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 25th of 103 catchers. His 3.7 BB% over 323 PA was the 8th lowest of 267 hitters with 300+ PA, and his 2.3 Barrel% over 258 BBE was the 16th lowest of the same 267-hitter pool, both marked as limiters. His .301 wOBA ran 28 points above his .273 xwOBA over 323 PA. The TDK LABS card traced a shifting role: in early May it noted a standard rest-day cadence behind another catcher, by mid-Jun it had the bat playing live even as the timeshare tilted and playing time bled to the other side of the rotation, by mid-Aug it flagged a cold stretch alongside the overperformance in his numbers, and by late Sep it had him as a backup catcher riding hot recent contact.
