Nick Mears was a middle-relief arm whose season ended on the injured list: he posted a 5.12 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 19.1 IP over 21 games for KCR, with an 18.1 K% and a 13.3 BB% over 83 BF, 2 W, 3 L, 5 HLD and 2 BS. He was placed on the 15-day IL on May 29 (retroactive to May 28) with a right shoulder impingement, then transferred to the 60-day IL on Jul 14, missing 122 regular-season days with no activation on record through Sep 27. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 847, he finished 738th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, and 340th of 575 relievers. The TDK LABS card shifted from early promise to a shutdown: in early May it had him among relievers performing well as the committee shuffled, by late Jun it had him on the 15-day IL with the shoulder impingement, and by late Aug it had him on the 60-day IL with season-ending surgery scheduled, a read it repeated in late Sep after the surgery.
