2026 review

Nicky López was a glove-first utility infielder who barely moved the offensive needle: over 100 games and 69 starts he hit .270/.322/.312 with a 16.3 K% and a 4.4 BB% over 270 PA, adding 1 HR, 5 SB and 3 CS. The season came with plenty of paperwork — traded to CHC on Apr 23, his contract selected Apr 24, then designated for assignment May 23 and outrighted May 25 before he signed as a free agent with TEX on May 27. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 568, taken in just 1 of 674 drafts, he finished 891st of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 36th of 75 second basemen. His .286 wOBA ran 16 points above his .270 xwOBA over 270 PA. The TDK LABS card followed him down over the year: in early May it had him as a bench piece being used as a pinch-hit replacement, by late Aug it noted he had lost a regular shortstop role after a teammate returned to the lineup, by mid-Sep it had him reduced to sparse part-time work, and by late Sep it was describing him as a platoon infielder with little power and a high strikeout rate.
