2026 review
Paxton Schultz was a low-leverage bullpen arm who bounced around WSN's roster all year: he put up a 6.40 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 32.1 IP over 27 games, with a 20.9 K% and a 7.8 BB% over 153 BF, and his 8.0 SwStr% over 610 pitches was the 50th lowest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF. He was claimed off waivers by WSN from TOR on Jan 9 after being designated for assignment, then went on the 15-day IL retroactive to Mar 22 with right elbow inflammation before a rehab assignment and activation Apr 7; from there he was optioned and recalled repeatedly through Apr 19, Apr 26, Jun 24, Jul 27 and Jul 29, missing 13 regular-season days on the IL stint. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 535 in just 1 of 674 drafts, he finished 1091st of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, and 537th of 575 relievers. His 6.40 ERA ran 1.35 above his 5.05 xERA over 153 BF. The TDK LABS card noted an early save in extras in May even while reading another pitcher as the closer-of-record, and by late May it had turned to calling him a low-leverage bulk arm in a pen with no save or hold path.
