2026 review

Ronny Simon was a speed-and-contact reserve who got enough time in Pittsburgh to flash both. Across 21 games and 16 starts he went 16-for-63, a .254 AVG and a .349 SLG in 63 AB and a .299 OBP, a 16.2 K% and a 5.9 BB% over 68 PA, adding 1 HR, 4 SB, 11 R and 4 RBI. His contract was selected Aug 5, he was optioned Aug 17, recalled Sep 6, optioned again Sep 11 and recalled Sep 12, a stretch that kept him shuttling between the majors and the minors. Undrafted in NFBC drafts, he finished 1204th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 445th of 660 hitters and 56th of 79 right fielders. The TDK LABS card followed him through it: in early Aug it had him as utility depth with no clear path to regular at-bats, days later it was flagging a speed-first rookie notching early RBI and a stolen base, by mid-Sep it was still describing a limited, minimal-power sample, and by late Sep, after his third recall, it was noting flashes of speed and early power with streamer appeal if the playing time held.
