Ryan Waldschmidt was a rookie center fielder who flashed early and faded late: he hit .256/.325/.368 with a 29.9 K% and a 7.7 BB% over 284 PA for ARI, with 3 HR, 7 SB and 22 RBI across 82 games. His contract was selected May 8, he was optioned Jun 15, and recalled Jul 10, with playing time spiking to 92 PA in Aug before dropping to 31 PA in Sep. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 912, he finished 813th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 99 spots above, and 34th of 70 center fielders. His .309 wOBA ran 12 points above his .297 xwOBA over 284 PA. The TDK LABS card traced the whole arc: his debut in May locked up the Arizona job, but by late Sep it had the early rookie shine faded sharply and playing time slipping to Lawlar after the hot start, with the sporadic usage capping what the late hot streak could do.
