2026 review

Sam Hentges worked as a full-time reliever for SFG this year, missing bats but battling his control the whole way: a 3.19 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 36.2 IP across 45 games, with a 23.7 K% and 14.5 BB% over 173 BF, 41 SO, 11 HLD and 3 BS. His 14.5 BB% over 173 BF was the 27th highest of 517 pitchers with 100+ BF. A right knee and left shoulder surgery put him on the 15-day IL retroactive to Mar 22, and after rehab outings on Apr 12 and Apr 14 he was activated May 10; a left forearm strain sent him back to the 15-day IL retroactive to Aug 27, and after a Sep 18 rehab assignment he returned Sep 19, missing 69 regular-season days in 2 stints. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 645, he finished 819th of 1472 overall in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank and 394th of 575 relief pitchers. His 3.19 ERA ran 0.62 below his 3.81 xERA over 173 BF. The TDK LABS card tracked him as a quiet reinstatement with no save path in mid-May, called it a ratio gem by early Aug, had him as a setup lefty in a low-volume pen by mid-Aug, and by late Sep flagged flat results and high-walk concern off his return from injury.
