Samuel BasalloBAL · C/1B
2026 review
Samuel Basallo split his rookie year at catcher between real power and a low average, hitting .222/.291/.406 over 399 PA for BAL with 18 HR, 40 R, and 54 RBI in 112 games. He struck out at a 26.6 K% and walked at an 8.0 BB% over 399 PA. Right shoulder inflammation put him on the 10-day IL Jul 22, retroactive to Jul 20, and he was activated Aug 19; a concussion sent him back to the 7-day IL Sep 23, retroactive to Sep 22, with no activation on record through Sep 27, for 35 regular-season days missed across both stints. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 161, he finished 355th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 194 spots below, and 16th of 103 catchers. His .303 wOBA ran 15 points below his .318 xwOBA over 399 PA. He hit .241 over 282 AB before the shoulder IL stint and just .154 over 78 AB after he came back, and his best month was May at .338 over 77 AB against .205 over 83 AB in Jun. The TDK LABS card pointed to a Tuesday explosion in early May as confirmation of strong contact quality, and by late Sep it was still describing him as a rookie catcher working in a power-heavy role.
