Sean Manaea was a swingman turned starter who never fully found stable form: over 33 games and 19 GS he threw 150.2 IP with a 4.78 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, a 22.1 K% and a 6.7 BB% over 653 BF, going 6 W and 8 L. He moved from reliever to starter with his first appearance in the new role Jun 13, making 0 starts in his first 14 outings and 19 starts in his final 19 outings, and the ERA barely budged with the switch, a 5.02 ERA in 43.0 IP as a reliever against a 4.68 ERA in 107.2 IP as a starter. Right-handed hitters did more damage against him, .270/.338/.516 over 459 PA, than lefties, .239/.297/.383 over 196 PA. His fastball climbed from 90.5 mph Mar-Jun (409 pitches) to 91.9 mph Jul-Sep (554 pitches), and his best month was Jun at a 3.72 ERA in 29.0 IP against his worst in Apr at a 6.97 ERA in 20.2 IP. The TDK LABS card tracked the swings: questioning his role by early May, noting a return to the rotation from bulk relief by mid Jul, flagging faded midseason form and rough volatility by early Sep, then calling him steady behind a strong outing by late Sep. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 303, he finished 1138th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 835 spots below, and 186th of 236 starting pitchers.
