2026 review
Sean Murphy was a catcher who barely had a healthy season to play through: 2 long injured-list stints cost him 124 regular-season days, and when he did play the bat did not connect, a .182 average and a .300 SLG in 110 AB, a .256 OBP, a 30.6 K% and a 9.1 BB% over 121 PA, with 3 HR and 10 RBI in 33 games. He went on the 10-day IL Mar 25 for a right hip labrum repair, took rehab assignments in April, and was activated May 4, only to land back on the 10-day IL May 12 (retroactive to May 11) with a fractured left middle finger, a stint that turned into a transfer to the 60-day IL Jun 4 before he took another rehab assignment Jul 24 and was activated Aug 3. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 407, he finished 1260th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 853 spots below, and 69th of 103 catchers. His .252 wOBA ran 21 points below his .273 xwOBA over 121 PA. The TDK LABS card tracked the rust and the layoffs as they happened: his May debut showed hip-surgery rust, by late Aug it noted he was freshly back from the finger-fracture layoff with sparse playing time and weak contact, and by Sep 27 it read his underlying contact quality as better than his surface numbers.
