2026 review

Shane Bieber was a starter who battled bad command when he pitched: he posted a 4.37 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 55.2 IP, with an 18.2 K% and a 9.9 BB% over 242 BF for TOR. Right elbow inflammation put him on the 15-day IL Mar 25, retroactive to Mar 22, then he was transferred to the 60-day IL Apr 13; after rehab assignments he was activated Jun 23, and a right teres major inflammation sent him back to the 15-day IL Aug 24, missing 127 regular-season days in 2 stints. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 242, he finished 784th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 542 spots below, and 119th of 236 starters. His 4.37 ERA ran 1.62 below his 5.99 xERA over 242 BF. His best month was Aug at a 2.59 ERA in 24.1 IP against a 5.64 ERA in 22.1 IP in Jul. The TDK LABS card had the rehab ramp nearly complete in mid Jun, then flagged flat velocity and a compromised swing-strike rate right after he was activated in early Jul, and by late Jul it pointed to a start marked by a career high in walks and the shortest outing on record.
