Slade Cecconi was a below-average starter turned reliever who could not keep the ball in the park: he posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 121.0 IP for CLE with a 18.8 K% and a 7.4 BB% over 528 BF, allowing 19 HR. He took a rehab assignment Aug 25 and was activated from the 15-day IL Sep 4. Drafted at NFBC ADP rank 396, he finished 1276th of 1472 in the TDK LABS 5x5 value rank, 880 spots below his ADP rank, and 209th of 236 starting pitchers. Once he moved from the rotation to the bullpen with his first appearance in the new role Aug 4, a 5.93 ERA in 13.2 IP as a reliever followed a 4.78 ERA in 107.1 IP as a starter. His best month was Jun at a 1.88 ERA in 28.2 IP and his worst was Jul at a 7.94 ERA in 17.0 IP. The TDK LABS card shifted from flagging a harder cutter in early May to noting hard contact underneath costing him by Jul, then by early Sep it had him on the injured list with arm fatigue early in a rehab assignment, and by late Sep it described him as a multi-inning relief arm with no path to saves or holds.
